Donor:Chang,Lin Li-yun
Lin Xizhou (mid to late 19th century), originally named Lianshui, courtesy name Xiangqu, often signed his artworks with the name Lin Xizhou. He had ancestral roots in Quanzhou, Fujian, and his family moved to Taiwan following the troop quelling Dai Chaochun Incident. They eventually settled near the Guandi Temple in Tek-chhàm.
Lin Xizhou served as the "Red Pen Master" for the military commander of Taiwan and the Penghu Islands, playing a crucial role as an advisor. During the Sino-French War, he served in the military and was awarded a fifth-rank official title. In 1894, he achieved in the imperial examination system as juren, but the change of rule in Taiwan rendered this achievement inconsequential.
During the early years of Japanese rule in Taiwan, Lin Xizhou continued to participate in various literati gatherings. He excelled in painting both flowers and birds as well as figures. The renowned Tek-chhàm painter Fan Yaogeng received guidance from him. Lin Xizhou's artworks are rare, and the donation of three of his pieces to the museum by his descendants is particularly valuable.
