十四日晴定時弦月の影をふみて太湖口尓(に)向ふ「沿道死屍暒々」（註：行外增字）夜風寂多(た)り
も声惨多(た)り四時半太湖口尓(に)着し朝食をなし六時出発新竹
尓(に)向ふ十一時新竹城北門外鄭氏の邸尓(に)舎営春(す)鄭は鄭成功の子孫な
りとて其邸宅の壮麗なる庭園の宏大なる台湾国まれ尓(に)見
る処然連(れ)共乱後の常として頗る不潔をまぬ可(か)れさるいいと阿多(あた)らし午后新竹
城内尓(に)入る店頭尽く国旗を飜へし市内雑沓宛然銀座通り
の祭日の如しチャンの巡捕数名を見る麦から帽子尓(に)金字尓(に)て
巡捕の二字を阿(あ)らはし多(た)る奇観なり此日吉田一等卒（専大郎）後
藤一等卒（甚作）脚気尓(に)て新竹病院へ入院須(す)夜酒王多(おた)る酔ふて
は眠る鄭氏の宅

The diary's owner is named Tounan(東男), with hiw surname unspecified. The diary includes records of military movement of the Japanese troop in Taiwan in 1895, the first year of Japnese occupation of the island, and the fierce resistance of Taiwanese people. On August 4, the Japanese troop stayed over night at Beiguo Garden. The dairy records the grand architecture of the Garden and scenes in Hsinchu downtown.
