Kamiyama Mannoshin (1869-1938), a native of Yamaguchi Prefecture, served as the 11th Governor-General of Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period from 1926 to 1928. Many Japanese governors-general during the colonial era had a background in Sinology and often engaged in poetic exchanges with local literati to establish connections between Japan and Taiwan. The presented work is a poetic exchange between Kamiyama Mannoshin, just after stepping down from his position as governor-general, and a local Hsinchu literati named Wei Qingde (1886-1964), known by his pen name Run-an. Wei Qingde was a native of Hsinchu and served as the editor of the Chinese-language edition of the Taiwan Daily News (Taiwan Nichi Nichi Shinpo). This exhibition features correspondences between Wei Qingde and his poet friends, providing insights into Wei's extensive network and interactions within the literary community of that era.
