Lin Chuangui (1910~1982), courtesy name Shouchang, was a descendant of Lin Zhanmei, and one of the most important calligraphers in Hsinchu. He was repeatedly selected for the Taito Shodokai Exhibition in Japan and served as a director and supervisor of the Chinese Calligraphy Association. His calligraphy style has been widely admired and even referred to as the "Shouchang style." It is commonly seen in Hsinchu as shop signs or inscriptions for local businesses.

This couplet was presented by Lin Shouchang to the renowned painter Zeng Yulan in Hsinchu. While its content is similar to another piece by Lin Chuangui held in the collection, the calligraphic style used in this couplet is different, demonstrating his versatility in multiple calligraphic styles.
