湯川秀樹/書莊子語錄橫批〈知魚樂〉
Hideki Yukawa/Horizontal Calligraphic Panel of a Phrase from Zhuangzi, “Knowing the Joy of Fish”

【Description】
In 1966, Hideki Yukawa published the essay “Knowing the Joy of Fish,” in which he reflected on the occasion of its writing and clarified his reading of the classical anecdote. He interpreted Huizi as representing an empiricist stance, closer to the conventional attitude of science, while viewing Zhuangzi’s position as akin to rationalism—a perspective Hideki himself felt more drawn to.
Through this parable, Hideki contemplated problems in elementary particle physics, suggesting that although the internal structure of fundamental particles may elude direct experimental observation, it can nevertheless be grasped through logical reasoning.
