【Description】

Sumiko married Hideki Yukawa in 1932. More than a life partner, she was a steadfast source of support, accompanying him throughout his scientific career and his commitment to peace. After Hideki’s passing, Sumiko continued to devote herself to peace activism and, in 1987, was appointed Honorary President of the World Association of World Federalists.
The letter papers shown here feature calligraphy by Hideki Yukawa paired with illustrations by Sumiko. Through calligraphy and waka, Hideki evokes images of peace, while Sumiko responds with paintings of chrysanthemum branches and ink bamboo.
