見渡せば／ゆきかふ車／かず志れず／いづちに人は／ゆかんとすらん。秀樹。
【翻譯】
放眼望去，車流如川一般來往不息。世人匆匆，究竟正要奔向何方呢？秀樹。
【Translation】
From afar, the traffic flows like an unceasing river. People rush along—toward what destination, after all? Hideki.

【說明】
本作寫於湯川秀樹自紐約返日之際。1948年，他應奧本海默（1904-1967）之邀，赴美國普林斯頓高等研究院，在此他和愛因斯坦（1879-1955）共事並結為好友；翌年轉往哥倫比亞大學任客座教授，並於期間獲頒諾貝爾獎。
和歌描寫秀樹在紐約所見：車流奔馳、人群穿梭，城市在戰後欣欣向榮之景。
{Description}
This work was written as Hideki Yukawa returned to Japan from New York. In 1948, at the invitation of J. Robert Oppenheimer (1904–1967), Hideki traveled to the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, where he worked alongside Albert Einstein (1879–1955). The following year, he moved to Columbia University as a visiting professor and, during this period, was awarded the Nobel Prize.
The waka reflects Yukawa Hideki’s impressions of New York: streams of traffic in motion and crowds moving through a city.
