Li Ji, often referred to the "Father of Chinese Archaeology," graduated from Tsing Hua Academy in 1918 and taught at the Tsing Hua Academy of Chinese Classical Studies in 1925. He was regarded as the fifth great mentor of Tsing Hua, alongside Liang Qi-chao, Wang Guo-wei, Zhao Yuan-ren, and Chen Yin-ke."
Li Ji (1896-1979), Fu Si-nian (1896-1950), and Dong Zuo-bin (1895-1965) were all pioneers and key figures in Chinese archaeology, particularly in the archaeological work at the Yin Ruins in Anyang, which marked a significant milestone for Chinese archaeology.
In 1928, Fu Si-nian became the director of the Institute of History and Philology at the Academia Sinica, actively promoting archaeological excavations. From 1928 to 1937, Li Ji and Dong Zuo-bin led multiple excavations at the Yin Ruins in Anyang, carrying out 15 archaeological expeditions. In 1937, with the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War, their archaeological work was interrupted. After the war, the collection of Yin Ruins artifacts is housed at the Institute of History and Philology at Academia Sinica in Nangang. To date, more than 100,000 pieces remain in the collection.
