Li Yi-qiao (1883–1945), given name Zu-tang and commonly known by his courtesy name. He was a descendant of the prominent Li family of Beimen in Tek-chhàm, notably Li Xi-jin (1786-1865). He was a renowned poet, calligrapher, and engaged in the collection and trading of artworks. He played a leading role in advocating for the establishment of the Hsinchu Painting and Calligraphy Enrichment Society and participated in Japanese calligraphy exhibitions.

This work features two Chinese poems written by Japanese authors: Nogi Maresuke(1849-1912) and Sugawara no Michizane(845-903). The sharp, vigorous brushwork reflects both his calligraphic skill and his engagement with Sino-Japanese poetic culture.
